The Story
Musicholic,
is an album like no
other that I started to record in 2005. It was a challenge for me, because it
was the first time I would have the experience of having my own pre-production
home studio.
Being an engineer was
not my strongest talent; however, I did manage to complete three songs.
These three songs were, I Hope You Dance,
Meren Blues
and Musicholic.
In 2006 when my song El Tun Tun de tu Corazon, which had been recorded on my previous CD
called Breakthrough became a bonified
hit, I had to put Musicholic
on hold.
It wasn’t until 2007, when I was driving to the city of Yuma, Arizona
that my creative juices started to flow again.
While enjoying the ride to Yuma, I turned the radio up to listen more
closely to Sean Kingston’s,
Beautiful
Girl.
Beautiful Girl, got my attention because it was a make over of
another very popular song from the 60’s, by
Ben E. King called,
Stand by Me.
Stand by Me became my favorite
song after landing in New York from Cuba.
As
I made my way across the desert that song stayed on my mind.
Upon arriving to Yuma, and after seeing my sister, inspired by what had
transpired that day, I drove home and went to work.
I started with
Beautiful Girl,
and kept working until the time came for me to leave for Shanghai.
After being in Shanghai for two weeks, I returned home and went back to
work on Musicholic.
By the summer of 2008, the music was finally mixed and I was ready to
roll it out on the streets, when out of the blue, I got booked to play in China
for three months which soon turned into five months.
While in China, I listened to the mix and didn’t like the quality of the sound,
so, I called my engineer from Beijing and told him to remix the whole CD again.
I got back to the U.S,
and with my inner ear, listened to the music again, still not happy, I had the same
engineer go back and remix it again, this time, I listened to it and much to my
surprise it was right on the money.
Personally, I don’t think that one can be 100% happy with a mix, why, because
there is always something that you think you could have done to make it better,
but all in all, I felt damn good with the final mix. One of the most important aspects that you’ll notice
in Musicholic, is that no song is arranged
or sounds exactly alike.
That’s because Musicholic is a
true extension of my personality.
It’s who I really am.
So much so, that before the CD was named,
Musicholic, I called it, “This Is Who I Am”. OK peeps so now you
know the 411 scoop on the new CD.
I hope that as you listen
to Musicholic, you also walk away with
the feeling that you have really gotten to know me, and that all the songs are a
perfect blend of my own rhythms, life experience and, that’s right, that hot funky,
Latin, pop, salsa, and r&b mix flavor.
